Trigger points are small, tight knots that develop in muscle tissue and can cause pain when activated. Trigger Point Therapy applies pressure to these trigger points, breaking up adhesions in the muscles and releasing tension which helps promote healing and relaxation.
Trigger point therapy is a type of massage therapy that focuses on the treatment of trigger points, which are areas of tightness and tension in the muscle tissue. These trigger points can cause pain and discomfort in other parts of the body and may be caused by a variety of factors, including muscle strain, repetitive use, or injury. During a trigger point therapy session, the therapist will apply pressure to the trigger points using their fingers, palms, or elbows in order to release the tension and reduce pain. The therapist may also stretch the muscle and use other techniques to improve mobility and reduce discomfort. Trigger point therapy is often used in conjunction with other massage techniques and may be effective in relieving chronic pain and improving overall muscle function.
What is a “Trigger Point”?
A trigger point is a small, tender area within a muscle that can cause pain in other parts of the body. These points are often referred to as “knots” because they can feel like small, hard lumps in the muscle tissue. Trigger points can be caused by a variety of factors, including muscle strain, repetitive use, or injury. They can also be the result of emotional stress or poor posture. When a trigger point is present, it can cause discomfort or pain in the area directly surrounding the trigger point, as well as in other areas of the body. For example, a trigger point in the upper back might cause pain in the neck or shoulders. Trigger points can be sensitive to the touch and may cause discomfort or pain when pressure is applied to them.
What does Trigger Point Therapy Treat?
Here are some common reasons why someone might consider seeking trigger point therapy:
Chronic muscle pain: Trigger point therapy can be effective in relieving chronic muscle pain caused by trigger points.
Poor posture: Poor posture can cause trigger points to form, and trigger point therapy can help to relieve the resulting muscle tension and discomfort.
Repetitive use injuries: People who perform the same movements repeatedly, such as athletes or those who work in physically demanding jobs, may develop trigger points due to the strain on their muscles. Trigger point therapy can help to reduce pain and improve muscle function.
Stress or tension: Emotional stress and tension can cause muscle tension, leading to the formation of trigger points. Trigger point therapy can help to release this tension and reduce discomfort.
Headaches: Some research suggests that trigger point therapy may be effective in reducing the frequency and intensity of headaches, including migraines.
Fibromyalgia: Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition that is often characterized by the presence of trigger points in the muscles. Trigger point therapy may be helpful in relieving pain and improving overall muscle function in people with fibromyalgia.
What to Expect During a Trigger Point Therapy Session
The length of a trigger point therapy session can vary depending on the specific needs and goals of the individual receiving treatment. In general, our trigger point therapy sessions at Scott County Chiropractic may last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. During this time, the therapist will work to identify and treat trigger points in the muscle tissue. This may involve applying pressure to the trigger points using their fingers, palms, or elbows, as well as stretching the muscle and using other techniques to improve mobility and reduce discomfort.
Some people may need more than one trigger point therapy session in order to achieve the desired results, while others may see improvement after just one session. It is important to discuss your specific needs and goals with your therapist in order to determine the appropriate length of treatment.

They are all amazing, they got me in fast, and we're very friendly, and answered any questions I had. They helped me much more than my old chiropractor 10/10 I highly recommend them!!
Called first thing this morning in need of an appointment asap and she immediately said "when can you get here"! Best customer service and bed side manner of any chiropractors office ive ever been in! 10/10 would recommend to ANYONE!
So thankful for Scott County Chiropractic, not only for me & my husband who has spinal bifta but for my foster son who spent the last 5 weeks in stiff pain and has FINALLY FOUND relief! Thank you Scott County Chiropractic!
Great vibes/energy from everyone who works here. Great work received from the doctor, and the new lady who specializes in muscle massages is amazing! Highly recommended!
I 100% recommend this place. The Dr. has helped me tremendously with my back pain. The staff is always welcoming and professional. Thank you to the best chiropractic team around!
Staff is amazing. Always so kind and caring. Dr Ivey takes his time listen to what you have going on. Would recommend to anyone. Entire staff makes you feel like family.
My family and I have been a patient since Scott. Co. Chiro opened. My daughter is an athlete and was initially seen for an old knee injury that just would NOT heal all the way. We were focusing on just the knee after seeing a specialist... but come to find out her pelvis is out of line- with routine adjustments and therapy- she has not had any issues since. We plan to get back 2/3 times a week for Preventive Maintenance before Off season training and AAU. Staff & Dr- friendly, fast and informative.
I suffer from migraines and the staff at Scott County Chiropractic has been wonderful at helping me manage them. I have been able to manage my migraine without medication with their help. They have worked with my schedule and been wonderfully at working with my insurance for reimbursement.
I have received chiropractic care for almost 10 years now. I suffered some injuries from a car wreck at 18 that went untreated for a few years. Since then I have worked desk jobs and physically demanding jobs, and even had a child. Each of these took their own toll on my body. I have recommended chiropractic care before, but never like this. Dr. Josh and his staff are truly the most kind and caring people, raising the bar for patient care. They all welcome my child in who has also started getting regular adjustments as a toddler. Dr. Josh is excellent at explaining what will be done and adapting as necessary. This is the best chiropractor and office I have been to.
We love this office and staff. My teenage daughter was suffering with headaches from neck strain during volleyball season . Getting adjusted weekly releived the tension and stress on her neck and shoulders to relieve the headaches . Staff always friendly and helpful . 🙂
Very friendly, we really like going, even my kids. He uses a lot of techniques I’ve never seen before (I’ve been to quite a few different chiropractors) and he seems to really get things to move. Always feel so much better after going. The staff is very friendly. Hope I can take my kids and myself here forever!<br><br>As for the 1-star comments, obviously they must be from friends and family of the previous Doctor. How petty and sad that fabricating ridiculous stories is your past time.
An excellent well managed business. The current chiropractor is just as skilled as the previous one, and the staff are very nice (especially Amber!) I’ll definitely always be a patient here.<br><br>Also, it’s very obvious most of these nasty negative reviews are entirely fake and have been posted out of petty spite over what happened with the previous Dr… Be careful what you believe without getting both sides of the story.
My husband and I have been going to Scott County Chiropractic for 2 years now and we have always received quality and professional care from all the staff. We have recommended several others to this clinic and they have had the same response. We are thankful to have found such a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere to receive adjustments.
The staff is excellent and very helpful and very friendly. They always make sure that I feel comfortable and work around my schedule to get me in. Also the doctor is amazing and said she down and talk to you and goes over everything With you. I’ve had nothing but a great experience and my pinched nerve is already getting better just after four visits. I would recommend Scott County chiropractic to anyone!
